About

Education: Art Center of Design, Pasadena, CA : BFA in Illustration (Honors)

Telling stories and creating worlds where anything and everything can happen is Liu’s forte. Tackling ideas that strike fear in most and rendering them affable and accessible, Liu creates art that allows viewers to feel as though they have stepped into her dream world. Liu's visions of childhood reflect a reality in which things often go awry, but in the most playful and colorful way. She fills her paintings with visual puns, and even double-puns. A wash in rainbow hues and populated with a veritable circus of cute (and freaky) creatures, her candy-colored paintings are at once strangely familiar, and oddly jarring in their often audacious and mysterious subject matter. Liu is also an art teacher that has spent nearly 20 years teaching her students how to find their voice to tell their stories.
